Romanian presidential election voting begins

On November 24, Jinshi Data reported that on November 24th local time, Romania held a presidential election. The voting started at 7 a.m. and ended at 9 p.m. According to statistics from the Romanian Election Commission, the country's approximately 19 million registered voters will elect a new president. There are a total of 14 candidates in this election. Popular candidates include Marcel Ciolacu, Chairman of the Romanian Social Democratic Party and Prime Minister, and George Simion, Chairman of the extreme right-wing party Romania's Unity Alliance. According to Romanian election law, if no candidate receives more than half of the votes, the top two candidates will compete in the second round of voting on December 8th. The term of office of the Romanian president is 5 years, with a maximum of two consecutive terms. The current president, Klaus Iohannis, has been re-elected for two consecutive terms and is not eligible to run again. His term will end in December.
