24 states in the United States and Washington, D.C. sue "American Volunteer Team" over staff and program cuts.
Golden Ten Data reported on April 30 that it was learned on April 29, local time, that 24 states in the United States and Washington, D.C., filed a lawsuit against the "American Volunteer Team", accusing it of laying off employees and terminating the project. It is reported that this is one of the Trump administration's efforts to reduce the size of the federal government. Twenty-three Democratic attorneys general and two governors argue in the lawsuit that the government is reducing the size of the agency so that it cannot function properly. The multi-state coalition said the move was illegal and violated the powers of Congress. Earlier this month, 85 percent of Volunteer America employees were placed on administrative leave, according to the lawsuit. Last week, the agency began issuing layoff notices to furloughed employees. The lawsuit also states that nearly $400 million worth of the Volunteer Corps of America program was terminated immediately.
